We asked Davey Hat-Trick to give us his match ratings and player comments after Newcastle 4 Tottenham 0.

Since the 6-1 last season, Spurs have improved massively and we’ve had our problems.

Before this game, they looked like genuine Champions League contenders, so a 4-0 win was the last thing they – and we – were expecting.

It was one of our best performances of the season. We controlled the game, made a “Big Six” team look ordinary, and could have scored a few more.

Spurs must have thought they were in with a good chance of winning this game when they saw Newcastle’s team sheet (Jacob Murphy at right back!!) but there were no poor performances, and we dominated for almost the entire game.

Hats off to the lads and hats off to the manager and staff.

The game plan and the tactics worked like a charm. Energy, discipline, commitment and a ruthless streak in front of goal. An absolutely outstanding performance.

Martin Dubravka – 8

Hard to score Dubs, as he was barely troubled.

A couple of routine saves, one slight wobble, but he could have brought his knitting for all the trouble Spurs caused him.

Jacob Murphy – 9

Very good.

The last thing he – or we – would have expected is that we’d need him as an emergency right back, but he did exceptionally well.

Werner’s pace would usually be a worry but Murph was more than up for the task and barely gave the Tottenham man a sniff.

Also won his fair share of tackles, got forward repeatedly, and used the ball well. Subbed off near the end because he was exhausted. Gave everything for the cause.

Emil Krafth – 9

Excellent performance.

I had my doubts about our whole defence pre-kick off, but he was solid, disciplined and sound.

Didn’t venture forward much but I don’t care. Protected our goal all game.

Fabian Schar – 10

Rivalling Anthony Gordon for the Hat Trick player of the season and this was another magnificent performance.

He tends to catch the eye when he’s on the ball and scoring goals – he got another one today – but he’s no slouch in defence. Tottenham barely threatened.

Dan Burn – 9

Had a dodgy few games a couple of months back but he’s looked good recently.

Won most of his battles and was intelligent on the ball.

Knew when to play it short and when to welly it.

Sean Longstaff – 8

Didn’t do much in terms of creativity but did a superb job on Maddison, Spurs’ alleged playmaker.

Hardly gave his opposite number a kick; Maddison cut an increasingly frustrated figure and was glad to be subbed off. Well played Sean Longstaff.

Radar was off for the first 20 minutes but once he was in the groove, he looked like what he is – a world class midfielder.

Always wants the ball, usually does something intelligent with it, and produced an outstanding assist for Isak’s second.

Elliot Anderson – 9

Best game he has played for us, in my opinion.

Looks like he has been playing for the first team for years and outclassed everyone in a mud-coloured shirt.

Anthony Gordon – 10

A great goal, two assists and another all-energy performance.

Pressed Spurs like his life depended on it and terrified them when he had the ball.

He has been a brilliant signing.

Alexander Isak 9

Two beautifully taken goals but marked down a point because he could / should have had five.

He is cool and classy and is getting better now that he is fit.

Harvey Barnes – 8

Decent performance but it was more about discipline than flair for him today.

Put in a decent shift.

SUBS:

Tino Livramento – 8

Murphy was running on fumes when Tino was subbed on and he was the perfect replacement.

Bags of energy, bags of pace, and put in a teasing cross that we couldn’t convert.

A raft of subs brought on to waste a bit of time and take any residual wind out of Spurs’ sails.

Didn’t touch the ball more than ten times between them.
