Newcastle 3 Ipswich 0 – Saturday 26 April 2025 3pm
Instant fan / writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
‘Just what the doctor ordered after last weekend.
Another massive 3 points, thoroughly deserved from a good, professional team performance.
We kept our composure after some suspect refereeing in the first half and once we went in ahead at the break against ten men, it was only going to go one way.
A week of preparation before Brighton where we can hopefully turn in another one of our good away performances and come back home with at least a point…and if we play well, all 3!’
David Punton:
‘A return to winning ways on the day that Eddie Howe returned to the dugout.
This was a must win game and they got the job done with relative ease, especially after the red card.
It probably should have been a few more than three goals after a first half where the fans had to be patient.
From the moment Isak converted the penalty it was in little doubt against a side headed back to the Championship.
The win puts us back up to third and five points ahead of Villa, who have the FA Cup distraction this weekend.
The race for Europe is hotting up and we are firmly in the hunt for a Champion League place.’
Billy Miller:
‘The match was a no contest after the red card.
Shame that we are the ones to relegate Ipswich but it needed to be done.
Back to 3rd, where we will stay until Thursday at least.
Fantastic to see Eddie back on the touchline.’
The Armchair Fan:
‘Whoo hoo!
Brilliant result and performance today.
Fully deserved three points and back up to third in the league.
Was a touch nervous at the end of the first half when the Ipswich goal seemed to have a force field around it but Isak dispatched his penalty with typical confidence.
Delighted for Osula! What a goal.
A future star in the making definitely.
This race for the top five is going right to the wire!’
Bazoox:
‘Enjoyable game after we realised Ipswich were no pushovers.
I thought Eddie got everything spot on tactically.
This puts us in a wonderful position and at this stage I think we will take some stopping for Champions League qualification.’
Dan (Junior Numbers) Elder:
‘Ipswich went down with a whimper, buzzing for Osula getting his first Premier League goal.
Average game but Ipswich didn’t seem to care about going down and didn’t have any urgency.
We didn’t have to get out of second gear but great headers by Burn and Osula.
Cool finish for Isak from the spot, he definitely needed that goal.
Decent performance and good win, definitely putting us back on form for the tough fixtures ahead.
Putting us up to 3rd and in the Champions League spots.’
Mark Jankowski:
‘A frustrating first half of football with Ipswich scrapping for their Premier League lives.
Ben Johnson’s brainless sending off and a series of equally brainless challenges on Newcastle players in the Ipswich box, eventually earned Newcastle a penalty and a half-time lead.
Second half was a training exercise and we comfortably ran out 3 goal winners but in some ways it’s disappointing not to have won by more.
On a side note, if that was Liam Delap’s audition for a summer move, he failed miserably. Lots of athletic energy but with no real purpose. He’s not much better than Will Osula, who’s had a year’s coaching from Howe.’
Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey…:
‘Mission accomplished.
Never going to be easy against a side whose fate was already sealed.
Professional performance and whilst some might whine about not improving our goal difference more, first and foremost, we needed all three points, which we got.
Great to see Osula get on the scoresheet and Sven Botman returning to first team duty.
Five point gap between us and the Vile restored.
Next home game is massive.’
