The New York Red Bulls have loaned forward Omar Sowe to Icelandic top-flight side Breidablik for the remainder of the 2022 MLS season, the club announced Thursday.
Sowe has only appeared once for the Red Bulls at senior level so far, as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw at home to DC United back in September 2021.
But the Gambian forward does have 17 goals and four assists to his name in 48 appearances at USL level with New York Red Bulls II and at 21 years old, remains a talent worth keeping an eye on.
“We want to see Omar continue to get minutes and grow professionally at a top division and think this is a great opportunity for him," Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a club press release. “We wish him the best for the rest of the season in Breidablik.”
In 2021, Sowe led Red Bulls II in goals scored (8), shots (55), and chances created (37). He joins a Breidablik side looking to challenge in 2022 after finishing just one point off top spot during the 2021 Icelandic season - enough to see them reach the first qualifying round of the 2022/23 Europa Conference League.
