Nathaniel Chalobah has admitted that the chance to work with Carlos Corberan was the decisive factor in him joining West Brom.
It’s no secret that the Albion boss was keen to strengthen his midfield in the January window and whilst he had to be a patient, a deal was sealed late on for Chalobah who arrived from Fulham.
Given his pedigree, which includes winning promotion from this level with the Cottagers, many see this as a coup for the Baggies.
And, speaking to the Express & Star, Chalobah explained why he was so keen to make the move to the Midlands.
“I’ve spoken with the manager and I’ve seen plenty of his work. I played against his Huddersfield side last year and they were a very good side. I know what he’s about and how he likes his teams to play.
“After I had that first conversation with him my mind was made up pretty quickly about coming here. The most important thing as a player is having that mentality of a blank canvas for whoever you are working with. I think that’s kind of something that drew me to this manager.”

The verdict
Everyone can see how Corberan has transformed West Brom since his appointment and he is a tactically brilliant coach.
As well as that, it appears he is a good manager to work for and Chalobah’s comments here show he is very good at getting his message across in terms of what he wants from each individual.
So, this looks like a very good fit and Chalobah could have a big role to play as they look to push for promotion back to the Premier League.
