According to an update from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are still struggling to finalise a deal for Nico Williams, as his agent’s demands have made talks more difficult.
Nico has asked for the agreement to be completed before Saturday, but a new request from his side has complicated everything.
The player’s agent wants a clause in the contract stating that if Barça cannot register Nico in La Liga after paying his €62 million release clause, the club must let him leave for free.
This condition was never discussed in the first meetings and has now become a big problem for the club.
Barça believe they made it clear to Nico’s agent that this summer’s situation with fair play rules and player registrations would be easier than last year.
That is why they were confident everything would move forward smoothly. But the sudden demand for this clause has surprised the club and caused frustration because they thought Nico was ready to sign without conditions this time.

Barcelona sources say Nico has not withdrawn his request, even as contracts were being prepared. The club is firm that it cannot include a clause that could put its finances at risk.
Allowing a player signed for €62 million to leave for free if registration issues occur would be a reckless move that could lead to financial problems and even legal consequences for the club’s board.
The urgency comes from Nico’s desire to avoid returning to pre-season training with Athletic Bilbao on July 9. He does not want to face awkward moments with his current team after making it clear he wants to join Barça.
Barcelona can move quickly to pay the clause, but cannot guarantee Nico will be registered in La Liga by July 5.
Because of this, they refuse to sign an agreement that could leave the club exposed if things don’t go as planned.
