New TV Deal could give big boost to PL teams including Tottenham

New US TV rights deal for the Premier League could give all clubs including Tottenham Hotspur a big windfall.

According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur could benefit as ESPN, CBS, and NBC are said to be in a three-way race to land the broadcasting rights of the Premer League in the US. It is believed that ESPN submitted a late bid which means that there will be a second round of bidding.

The deal is said to be for the rights of the Premier League from next season up to the summer of 2028. NBC has had the exclusive rights of England’s top-flight League since 2013 but the Disney-owned ESPN seems determined to have a go at it. It is being suggested that the amount for this deal could reach close to £1.48bn.

This new bumper deal could see clubs gather a windfall of around £10m a season for the duration of the deal. This could be the first time that International broadcasting rights overtake the value of domestic rights.

ESPN have also recently acquired the rights for La Liga for £1.04bn. They also have the tender to Bundesliga. The PL could be the cherry on the top as it is known as one of the most exciting football leagues in the world.

Their executive Burke Magnus spoke regarding the PL broadcasting deal in a conference in New York earlier in the week:

“[The Premier League rights] haven’t been available until now. So, we ran our process. We did it with discipline. We’ll see [what happens]. [We’ve had] good conversations. We hope we understand what they were looking for as part of the process. And [I’m] excited to see where it goes.”

Many of the top clubs like Tottenham Hotspur used the revenue earned by broadcasting right to help take the club forward. It is an important financial resource and could help the club develop its squad.

Apart from the PL Spurs also feature in other competitions which means that it is important for them to regularly invest into building a stronger and deeper squad. It is believed that close to £300m could be given out in performance-related bonuses which could give the Lilywhites even more impetus to do better.
