With Eddie Howe’s side valuing their prized asset at £150m, Liverpool need to meet that asking price or else risk missing out on a player who is under contract until 2028.
However there are now signs that the Reds are considering alternatives. One report in TEAMtalk is linking Liverpool with a move for Dusan Vlahovic.
The Juventus forward is not expected to stick around past the September 1 deadline and has got plenty of suitors in the Premier League and elsewhere.
“It’s understood that Liverpool have Vlahovic on a long list of alternatives to Isak, should they miss out on Newcastle’s 25-year-old talisman,” a report reads.
“Arne Slot wants to bring in another striker before the transfer window closes and even though Isak is clearly the top target, the Reds are prepared to look elsewhere if a deal is not possible.”
The 25-year-old is now into his fifth season in Turin but the club are said to be desperate to relieve themselves of his €300k per week pay packet.

Serbian international Vlahovic has scored 59 goals in 146 outings for the Old Lady - netting in the season opener against Parma last weekend.
But Juve have signed Jonathan David as a free agent and would also like to add Randal Kolo Muani before the transfer deadline - putting Vlahovic’s future in increased doubt.
Meanwhile it’s been reported by IlBiancoNero that Juve would ask for only €20m for the former Fiorentina man - who is out of contract in 2026.
Liverpool look slightly short in attack following a summer transfer campaign which saw them dump both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
Although Hugo Ekitike looks a fine fit at centre-forward, Arne Slot could do with another option up there.
