A Milan City Councillor has made clear that, despite the reports that suggest that the plans for Inter and AC Milan to build a new stadium together to replace the San Siro are close to dead in the water, there has been no request to suspend them.
Speaking to the Milan City Council, as reported by FCInterNews, Council Giancarlo Tancredi, the Councillor for Urban Regeneration, made very clear that no request has yet come in from either of the clubs to put the existing plans on ice.
It has been reported that AC Milan are getting closer and closer to abandoning the plans to build a new stadium together with Inter to replace the San Siro, and switching to alternative plans to build alone in the La Maura area.
The reason for this, it is reported, is that the Rossoneri are in a hurry to build a new stadium that would be vital for modernizing their infrastructure and increasing revenues, and fed up with the delays that have gotten in the way of the San Siro plans with their city rivals.
Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri have reportedly written to the city to formally ask for clarification regarding the matter.
Milan City Councillor Tancredi addressed the situation, stating that “No one can deny that there have been discussions with Milan who’ve expressed an interest in building the La Maura area, but no official proposal has been made to the city.”
He continued that “As of yet, there’s no request from either Milan or Inter to interrupt, suspend, or abandon the plans regarding the ongoing project of urban redevelopment in the San Siro area.”
“As of now, we’re still waiting to see what the intentions of the clubs are,” Tancredi explained.
Regarding the reports that Milan are trying to build in the La Maura, the Councillor clarified that “There are no proceeding in progress and there’s been no request to modify the protection restrictions around the La Maura area and the Hippodrome area.”
