While it is was widely expected that Karim Benzema would announce his decision to leave Real Madrid, the player himself refused to entertain such discussions.
And now, according to an exclusive update from MARCA late Thursday evening, the striker will stay in the capital.
“The reality is that Benzema had not even spoken and his idea was and is to continue in Madrid,” claimed the outlet.
The turnaround arrived after the No. 9 was pressed about the rumours during a press conference on Thursday, the 35-year-old suggested he hasn’t considered addressing fans over his potential exit.
“Stay or leave Real Madrid? At the moment, I’m here,” said Benzema. “We have a game on Saturday.”
“Speak to Madrid fans? Speak about what? Why speak of the future if I’m in Madrid … Who’s speaking is the internet, and reality is not the internet.”
The striker also shared his admiration and appreciation for the club after 14 years of wearing the white kit.
“I know how much Real Madrid fans love me. I feel that when I’m on the pitch. I give my best for them, always,” he further added.
“I always say that we play with 11 on the pitch but also with a crucial factor, Real Madrid fans.”
If Benzema does decide to leave Madrid, it will leave a major attacking hole for Carlo Ancelotti’s side next season.
