Alfredo Morelos’ curious summer took another strange turn when old links Porto came back in for his services, according to Portuguese media.

Apparently manager Sergio Conceição has been wanting Morelos for some considerable time but the Oporto giants can’t afford the £20M asking price, so says the report.

This is of course absolute poppycock given they just made about £50M on two player sales and untold amounts on others – the Porto model has always been signing cheap as chips South American players (and occasional Portuguese/Spanish models) and then selling them off at top value.

This model has been used in Portugal forever and is why Benfica got £120M for Joao Felix despite spending nothing on him.

As for Morelos, ergo they can afford him if they really want him, and the story is that they want him to replace outgone Moussa Marega.

The Morelos stuff has been quiet lately, this seems like press just drumming up some interest in the affair again, but Porto have been mentioned more than once before.

Then again, haven’t quite a few clubs?

Rangers won’t let Morelos leave for less than £20M.

So we’ll see.
