The League One side have entered into a period of exclusivity, which is a boost for the Royals, who are in need of a takeover.

League One side Reading have entered into a period of exclusivity with a potential buyer.

This has been revealed in a club statement, with the interested party potentially agreeing to pay the club's bills until they complete a takeover.

An exclusivity period has been agreed just weeks after Rob Couhig's deal to take control of the Royals collapsed.

Couhig, 75, had even attended games at the Select Car Leasing Stadium back in August and had publicly revealed that he was close to finalising a takeover.

But sale negotiations broke down in the end and the Royals were left in an uncertain situation, with Couhig previously funding the club.

There were concerns regarding whether the Berkshire side would be able to fulfil its future financial obligations, but this latest development has helped to provide some financial stability, at least in the short term.

The Royals confirmed this afternoon that they have entered into a period of exclusivity with a buyer.

The proposed deal not only includes the club, but also the Select Car Leasing Stadium and the club's training ground, Bearwood Park, a facility that the fans fought hard against to protect.

Funding is also set to be provided to ensure the club meets its financial obligations, but it has also been noted in the club statement that current owner Dai Yongge and the potential purchaser are keen to get a deal over the line "at the earliest opportunity".

This is good news for a club that needs certainty, even though the Royals aren't in the worst league position at this stage.

This is positive news and fans need that at the moment, amidst all the doom and gloom.

It's very promising that there are buyers that are still interested in purchasing the Royals - and it's no surprise that there are - considering the club's potential.

This interested party must get a deal over the line though.

Certainty is needed, and long-term certainty isn't possible without a takeover.

Fans will be cautiously optimistic about this update, with previous false dawns in mind.

Positive results against Cheltenham Town and Crawley would help to raise morale further in the Royals' first-team camp.
