Norwich City are set for a transfer windfall after Jonathan Rowe completes his move from Olympique de Marseille to Bologna.
With just over a week or so of this summer’s transfer window, Norwich City are set to receive a very well-timed cash windfall as a result of Jonathan Rowe’s move from Olympique de Marseille to Bologna.
Norwich have undergone some fairly major surgery this summer, with the Canaries managing to poach Liam Manning from Bristol City after he led the Robins to the top six and the play-off places in the Championship last season.
The expectation is for Norwich to mount and sustain a serious challenge for promotion this season, and they have begun with a typically mixed couple of results and performances.
Starting with a 2-1 defeat to Millwall at Carrow Road, Norwich have since beaten Watford at Vicarage Road in the first round of the EFL Cup, before a 2-1 victory at Fratton Park against Portsmouth in the league.
As they gear up for a potentially reasonably busy final few days of the summer market, the club are set to receive a windfall from former player Rowe’s move across the continent.
According to FourFourTwo, Norwich are set to receive a percentage of the transfer fee that is taking Jonathan Rowe from Marseille to Bologna in the coming days.
It has been reported that the fee to take the England U21 international from the Stade Velodrome to the Renato Dall’Ara is in the region of £17 million.
Norwich apparently negotiated a sell-on clause that was inserted into the deal that took Rowe from Carrow Road to the south of France last summer, albeit exactly how much that clause is is yet to be disclose.
Rowe joined Marseille on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy last summer, and was often on the periphery of Roberto De Zerbi’s first choice eleven with the French giants.
He did show some quality and, after a positive summer in which he scored England’s extra-time winner to defeat Germany in the final of the UEFA U21 European Championships, better and bigger things were expected for this season.
He started in Marseille’s 1-0 loss to ten-man Stade Rennais at Roazhon Park on the opening day of the 2025/26 season, but an argument between himself and Adrien Rabiot has caused both of the players to be transfer-listed, and now Rowe is set for a move to Serie A.
Norwich have enjoyed an efficient and busy summer transfer window so far, with Sporting Director Ben Knapper seemingly putting the club in a very strong position, despite the sale of Borja Sainz to Porto.
Jacob Wright joined on a permanent deal from Manchester City, following his loan spell last season, whilst the goalkeeping department has been given a shake-up with Vladan Kovacevic, Daniel Grimshaw and Louie Moulden all arriving.
At the back, Jakov Medic has signed from Ajax, with Harry Darling, who worked with Manning at Milton Keynes Dons, moving on a free transfer from Swansea City.
As well as that, the Canaries have also added Mirko Topic, Papa Amadou Diallo and Jeff Schlupp, with the most eye catching addition of the summer being that of Mathias Kvistgaarden from Brondby.
