Things are looking grim for New England Revolution winger and Colombian international Dylan Borrero after an early game injury last night against FC Cincinnati.
The 21-year-old avoided an open ball challenge coming up the right flank from center back Yerson Mosquera by jumping over the defender but landed awkwardly on Gillette Stadium’s synthetic surface.
"Dylan looks like a serious injury," head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena said after the 1-1 draw. "I haven’t gotten confirmation, but I think it’s a serious knee injury."
Borrero, who joined the Revolution last year from Brazilian side Clube Atlético Mineiro, is a key piece in Arena’s attacking strategy.
The Revolution, looking like serious Supporter’s Shield and Eastern Conference contenders, will have to rethink strategy if Borrero’s injury proves worse. Arena and co. have come to rely heavily on the youngster who has already made a difference in 1,100 minutes of play, scoring five and assisting in three goals.
With FC Cincinnati hot on their trails and momentarily tied at points, it is further insult to injury that Mosquera himself would put his team ahead with a header into Revolution keeper Đorđe Petrović's far post from a corner kick.
