New England have announced the acquisition of Boca Juniors attacker Luca Langoni as an U22 Initiative signing, with reports suggesting the Revs forked out $7 million for the winger — a club record deal.

The 22-year-old had begun to prove himself as an upcoming star in Argentina, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 69 senior appearances for Boca.

“We are excited to have secured an explosive attacking talent in Luca Langoni, who has honed his skills in one of the most competitive environments in the Americas at Boca Juniors,” Revolution Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said.

“Luca is a dynamic winger who can use his pace and skill on the ball to score and create for his teammates. We are thrilled to have Luca on his way to New England.”

After a disappointing star to the MLS season, New England have begun to right the ship in recent weeks. While they still sit bottom of the Eastern Conference, they are only five points out of a potential playoff berth.
