However, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has now told CaughtOffside: „Zinedine Zidane has been linked with the Bayern job again, but I don’t know of anything advanced at this stage.“

The Italian continued: „Bayern have considered many coaches in recent months, top coaches like Zidane and Conte are free, so it’s normal to discuss internally. But I’m still told that Julian Nagelsmann is the favoured candidate, while Ralf Rangnick and Roberto De Zerbi are still on the shortlist, depending on what happens with Nagelsmann.“

Nagelsmann probably still the number 1 candidate

According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, there is currently no lead to Zidane in Bayern’s search for a coach. He wrote on X: „There is no truth to the reports that Bayern have made contact with Zidane’s entourage in recent days.“

He continued: „Zidane was being discussed as a possible replacement when there was talk of Tuchel’s premature dismissal weeks ago. Now Bayern are reportedly focussing on Nagelsmann. De Zerbi is also still on the list.“

It had previously been reported that current national coach Julian Nagelsmann is currently the top candidate at Bayern. Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League is also being eyed. Ralf Rangnick is currently the Austrian national coach and is also rumoured to be on Bayern’s list of candidates.

Zidane left Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 and has not worked as a coach since. In two spells in charge of the Whites, Zidane won the Champions League three times, the UEFA Super Cup twice, became Club World Champion twice with the team, won two league titles in Spain and the Spanish Super Cup twice. in 2017, he was voted FIFA World Coach of the Year.
