América’s new chief operating officer Héctor González Iñárritu has promised to be a team player with the Azulcrema.
The position had been vacant since Mauricio Culebro’s departure in 2019, and Iñárritu arrives after a five-year absence from Mexican football.
He has held various posts in the Mexican Football Federation in the past, and insisted he will not step on the toes of América’s current sports president Santiago Baños.
“I know him (Baños) perfectly well, we have a very good relationship, a very good friendship,” Iñárritu told TUDN.
“I get to add, to complement all the operational part that includes different areas, none of the sports part, the sports part is still the responsibility of Santiago Baños.
“There will be a lot of communication, exchange of ideas, debates. I will ask him for his opinion on many things in this area, he will ask me for mine.
“The final or decisive decisions in the sports area will continue to be made by Santiago, and I will be responsible for the the operational part.”
América have failed to deliver on the pitch in recent seasons, with their last silverware collected when they lifted the Copa MX Clausura in 2019.
