Manchester United were unlucky not to claim a victory against longtime foes Arsenal on Sunday evening.

As has so often been the case this season – and pretty much since he arrived at the club – Bruno Fernandes came to the rescue yet again with an absolutely stellar showing in the much-anticipated Premier League clash.

His inch-perfect free-kick gave United the lead in the first half following a turbulent 45 minutes on the back foot. Again, a lack of clinicality on the attackers’ part meant the hosts were unable to add to their lead before Declan Rice clinched a point with his 74th-minute strike.

Ruben Amorim will have undoubtedly been pulling his hair out on the touchline throughout the cagey affair – and Gary Neville singled out one Red for a moment that could’ve proven costly.

Late on at Old Trafford, Andre Onana dove to save a shot – but proceeded to parry it straight into the path of the pouncing Gabriel Martinelli, allowing him a direct shot on goal.

Luckily for the goalkeeper, Martinelli smashed his effort over the crossbar and, even if it had gone in, would’ve been flagged for offside anyway.

“Gabriel Martinelli hangs his head but he will be happy the offside flag went up. But that was really poor goalkeeping from Andre Onana,” said Neville on Sky Sports, as cited by the BBC live blog.

The stalemate means Liverpool now hold a 15-point lead over the trailing Gunners atop the table, while United remain on their uphill battle of trying to oversee a top-half finish; they’re currently eight points adrift of 10th-placed Fulham ahead of facing 19th-placed Leicester City on Sunday.
