FC Barcelona continue their march towards the treble and have already done one-third of their work after having won the Copa del Rey after an intense fight against Real Madrid last night.

The Blaugranes were able to win this match 3-2, but, unlike in their last two meetings, had to put up a significant fight to ensure they left Seville with the trophy. The win came only in extra time after the teams stood level at 2-2 at the end of normal time.

One of the players who came onto the pitch in this extra time was the defender Eric Garcia, who replaced Pedri. His arrival not only provided fresh legs for the Catalans but also brought a significant degree of composure.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Spaniard also talked to the media after the game. In addition to his happiness on winning the trophy, he also expressed his delight at the atmosphere created by Barcelona fans:

“As a player, I had never experienced anything like this… The atmosphere was incredible. We already knew because a Clasico is always a different game, there’s a lot of rivalry.”

The former Manchester City defender admitted that he suffered in this game, but went on to recognise that this is something normal:

“[I] suffered [in the second half]… but in games like this, that’s what happens.”

Eric Garcia also admitted that anything could have happened in the extra time:

“In extra time, everything was wide open and Koundé gave us the victory.”

The defender did not have a lot of role to play in this game, as he was brought in only in extra time. But still, he contributed to the win in this crucial phase of the game, and continue to remain an important player for Barcelona. Hopefully, Eric Garcia will continue playing his part as the Catalans near the end of the season.
