A former international teammate of Barcelona head coach Xavi has this weekend moved to issue a staunch defence of the tactician.

As much comes amid what he feels has long been a lack of appreciation for Xavi’s endeavours in the dugout.

Barcelona’s headmaster of course announced his intention to step down from his post upon the season’s close earlier this year.

This comes owing to an underwhelming first half of the campaign, which saw the 44-year-old come in for an absolute wave of criticism on the part of fans, pundits, and the media alike.

Speaking during an interview with The Guardian, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, this weekend, Santi Cazorla was therefore asked for his take on the job being done by Xavi at present.

And Cazorla, who lined out alongside the Blaugrana icon for a number of years with the Spanish national team, was unwavering in his stance that Xavi is simply ‘undervalued’.

“It’s sad that he suffers in his own home, he is undervalued,” Cazorla, who is currently lining out for Real Oviedo in Spain’s 2nd tier, began.

“Xavi arrived in one of the toughest moments in the club’s history, he won the League and the Super Cup, but he is never enough.”
