Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries is looking to make his return to action against Genoa, while Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco will remain in the pits for another week.

The 27-year-old enjoyed an impressive first half of the campaign, cementing himself as a pillar in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation.

He has already contributed with two goals and four assists thus far this season.

However, the Dutchman’s exploits were put to a halt earlier this month when he sustained an injury during the rampant 3-0 win over Napoli.

But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Dumfries’ return to action is fast approaching.

As the source explains, the wingback has been working separately from the group along with Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco.

The report expects the Netherlands international to rejoin group training in the next few days.

Therefore, the pink newspaper believes Dumfries has a realistic chance of earning a call-up for this weekend’s trip to Liguria.

Inter will take on Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Friday night, and the Dutchman could be fit enough to start on the bench.

With Juan Cuadrado also unavailable, Matteo Darmian has been filling in on the right flank.

On the other hand, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez and Dimarco will require another week on the sidelines.

The two stars sustained muscle strains in the aftermath of Inter’s defeat at the hands of Bologna in the Coppa Italia last week.

Hence, the report believes the two players are aiming for a return in the maiden fixture of 2024.

The Nerazzurri will host Hellas Verona on January 6th. So we shall see if the Argentina and Italy stars will be among the ranks.
