Denzel Dumfries will start for Inter Milan in next Monday’s Serie A match against Lazio.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They also report that there will be no changes to the Nerazzurri back three for the clash.
Inter face a huge match in the context of their season next Monday.
The Nerazzurri are coming off the back of a big setback in the form of a loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. But they can hardly dwell on that.
Inter’s return to Serie A action comes against a direct rival for the title.
Inter travel to Rome to face Lazio. They are currently level on points with the Biancocelesti, albeit with a game in hand.
There is a strong feeling that Monday’s match could have a decisive impact in the title race, and not just for Inter and Lazio. Atalanta, Napoli, and Fiorentina will certainly be watching closely too.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is hardly going to be thinking about squad rotation on Monday.
The Nerazzurri coach will want a very strong starting eleven against his former team Lazio.
However, there are still a couple decisions for Inzaghi to make.
On the right flank, both Denzel Dumfries and Matteo Darmian have started regularly this season.
According to the Corriere, it will be the Dutchman who gets the nod on Monday.
Dumfries had not been in the squad against Leverkusen on Tuesday. This had been due to flu-like symptoms.
But the 28-year-old is back and ready to start against Lazio.
Meanwhile, the Corriere report, there is little wiggle room for Inzaghi in defense. Both Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard are still out with muscle problems.
Therefore, the newspaper report, the trio of Yann Bisseck, Stefan de Vrij, and Alessandro Bastoni will start.
The Corriere’s complete predicted Inter starting eleven for Monday’s match is as follows:
Inter (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro.
