A referee from Rome, Federico La Penna, will officiate Monza-Roma today, but Brianzoli’s coach, Alessandro Nesta, refused to fule controversy: ‘Perhaps he supports Lazio.’
Roma and Monza meet at the U-Power Stadium at 18:00 CET today.
There was controversy from Italian media over the last few days, as La Penna, a referee from Rome, was appointed for the match.
When Nesta was asked his thoughts at a pre-match press conference on Saturday, he replied with a joke.
“Perhaps he supports Lazio,” said the former Biancocelesti centre-back.
“I don’t know, I don’t believe in these things. I always believe in people’s goodwill.”
Nesta played 261 games for Lazio, scoring three goals and helping the team win the Serie A title in 1999-00.
