Inter striker Edin Dzeko is hoping that league leaders Napoli will slip up at some point and give the Nerazzurri a route back into the Serie A title race.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the Bosnian also made clear that as far as his future goes, he is happy with where he is at Inter.

Inter have a big gap to make up on Napoli once they return to Serie A action in January.

The deficit as things stand is eleven points, and even if the Nerazzurri are to get a precious win over the Partenopei in their first match back in the league next month, there will still be eight points between them and the league leaders.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri will have to be hoping that Napoli hit a stumble that they could capitalize on if they are to fight for the Scudetto.

Of the match against the league leaders in January, Dzeko said that “It will represent three points, like every match.”

“That doesn’t change whether it’s Napoli or Empoli, but a win would certainly give us confidence.”

“They’re a strong team,” Dzeko said of the Partenopei, “I honestly didn’t expect that they would start so well, winning thirteen out of fifteen.”

“Let’s hope they slip up and let us back in,” the striker joked.

Of the preparations during the World Cup break, the Bosnian said that “You have to give everything, the team is what matters.”

“Anything an individual player accomplishes is always worth less than a win for the team.”

“I always give my all,” Dzeko continued.

“I’m not a player who only knows how to score goals and who only thinks about goals, I focus on the good of the entire team.”

“I’m always happiest when we win,” the 36-year-old said.

Of the Champions League, Dzeko said that “It’s the most biggest competition in Europe, we as players feel at our best when the anthem plays.”

“We certainly want to try to do something special there, but first thing will be the return of the league, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana.”

“In the Champions League we want to build on what we did last season,” he noted.

Asked about his future, the former Roma, Manchester City, and Wolfsburg striker said that “I’m happy at Inter, I’m focused on training.”

“Everything else is left for other people to think about.”

Of what he plans to do after he retires from playing, Dzeko replied that “I’m not preoccupied by that, I’m not thinking about that and honestly I don’t want to think about it.”

He closed by saying that “I still feel that I have a lot to give in football.”
