The former goalkeeper spoke in the official matchday program for this evening’s Champions League group stage match against Red Bull Salzburg.

There has been plenty of turnover in the Inter squad over the past few years.

But at the same time, there is also undoubtedly a certain core at the basis of the squad. Some of the players who make up the Nerazzurri’s spine have been with the team for several years.

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez is now in his sixth season at the San Siro.

The Argentine joined the Nerazzurri from Racing Club in the summer of 2018. And he now wears the captain’s armband, having grown in importance to the team both on and off the pitch with each passing season.

Meanwhile, Dimarco has been a regular in the team since returning from loan with Hellas Verona in 2021.

But the 25-year-old Italian international’s connection to Inter goes back much further than that. Dimarco is a childhood Nerazzurri fan, and came through the club’s academy.

Zenga Names Dimarco & Lautaro As Representing The Spirit Of Inter

As far as what he likes about the current Inter team, Zenga said “The mentality of always looking at ourselves as an ‘us.” Not just the individuals.”

“Today Lautaro is one of the players who represents what this Inter means the most,” the former keeper went on.

“He’s grown a lot.”

“And another player who represents what Inter means is Dimarco,” Zenga went on.

“He was born in Milan, grew up in Calvairate,” the former keeper noted.

“He earned a spot in the first team, went out on loan and returned,” he said of Dimarco.

“In my opinion he has also become a brilliant symbol of this team.”
