Legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi feels that the signing of Juventus forward Paulo Dybala on a free transfer would represent a very shrewd piece of business for the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the 48-year-old gave the view that there would be no real downside to the possible acquisition of the Argentine.

Dybala could be available on a free transfer during the summer transfer window should he not agree on an extension with the Bianconeri, given that his current contract is set to expire at the end of June.

Inter are one of the teams most closely following the 28-year-old’s situation with a view to a possible move for him when he is out of contract.

Materazzis a fan of the possibility of this deal, and feels that the Argentine would fit in very well at Inter and show his quality were he to arrive.

“I don’t see any downside in this signing, only positives, because Dybala is a great player, plain and simple,” he said.

“I’ve always been a fan of him,” the former defender added, “he’s a player of a higher level. With how this team is playing I would say it would be the icing on Simone Inzaghi’s cake.”

Materazzi feels that “An all-Argentine duo with Lautaro would work because they are two different strikers who would fit well together – Dybala is a Ten who scores, Toro is a striker, who isn’t the biggest but has great physical presence and movement.”

He went on that “Football is suffering a lot from the pandemic, but I understand that Dybala might feel betrayed about the renewal situation – he had the word of the club, but then Juve started lowering their offer.”

“In a context like this, a player can feel that they are no longer at the centre of the project,” he went on, “it is normal that he could look around and see an opportunity in Inter.”

“A club that doesn’t make the most of Dybala’s talent is making a mistake,” Materazzi concluded, “he’d be available on a free transfer and he could be brought into the team if room is made by getting rid of some big contracts.”
