Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi believes that the Nerazzurri must continue to believe in the possibility that they can win the Serie A title.

Writing in a column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the former defender agreed with midfielder Nicolo Barella that there is still a title race and that Inter can still see themselves as being in it.

The eleven-point gap between Inter and Napoli at the top of the Serie A table looks like a massive one in the context of the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto ambitions.

If Inter had come into the season among the favourites to win the title on paper, this is not how things have gone on the pitch.

However, 23 matches and 69 points to play for is still plenty of time and plenty of chances for the Nerazzurri to get back into it, if they can capitalize on any stumbles by league leaders Napoli.

“Barella’s sentiment is right and should be shared by everyone,” Bergomi writes.

“And God forbid Inter don’t think they can win the Scudetto with 23 games still to play.”

“With 69 points available, obviously anything can still happen,” he makes clear, “there’s time to recover and space for the dream of the Scudetto.”

“Nicolo is right,” Bergomi continues, “a team like Inter must always aim for the maximum and if someone like him – a symbol and leader of Simone Inzaghi’s team – is convinced that a comeback is a possible goal, that’s a good sign for the entire Nerazzurri.”

“It means that the entire dressing room is aware that they can still play for the Scudetto across the second part of the season,” he adds.
