Legendary former Inter captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has revealed that he did not like what he saw from Inter in this weekend’s Serie A season opener against Fiorentina despite the fact Inter won.

Inter left it late but managed to score two late goals in order to secure a 4-3 victory over La Viola at San Siro to get their 2020/21 Serie A campaign off to a winning start.

“I didn’t like Inter, I saw a lot of confusion, they struggled. The victory is exhilarating for the fans, but it is a wake-up call,” Bergomi explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia during their Sky Calcio Club show on Sunday.

“Inter is a work in progress. The defence struggled. Bastoni was out of position, D’Ambrosio is better as a wing-back than a centre back, Kolarov in open play with 50 meters of space behind him. They all struggled.

Bergomi, who spent the entirety of his career with Inter, then went on to discuss the rumoured potential replacements for Milan Skriniar, who has been heavily linked with a potential switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

Multiple reports have stated that talks have already taken place between the two clubs over the Slovakian national team player but many have stated that there is some distance between supply and demand.

“De Vrij is fundamental and since Godin has gone, if Skriniar goes, one defender being signed is not enough. Another is needed, one with personality. If I get Milenkovic sure, I’ll sell Skriniar. Smalling plays in the middle of a back three and Inter already have De Vrij there.

From what I understand, Fiorentina is thinking more about selling Chiesa than Milenkovic.”

He also spoke on Inter’s usage of all five substitutes against Fiorentina: “Sanchez and Hakimi engraved themselves on the match, the others thanks to personality and presence. This is important. Maybe all these players don’t stay, some are going out.”
