Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli believes that Inter are the team with the best potential to go on and win the Scudetto race.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Altobelli praised the form shown by his former club and suggested that they are the favourites in a four-team fight for the Scudetto.

The Nerazzurri had at one point looked like they might struggle to defend last season’s Scudetto crown, not necessarily through any fault of their own but due to the form shown by AC Milan and Napoli.

However, in recent weeks Inter have looked at their best while their rivals have started to show vulnerability.

The Nerazzurri have not dropped points since the return from the international break, and they have gone from seven points behind both the Rossoneri and the Partenopei to one point ahead of Napoli and just one behind their city rivals at the top.

“There will be a four horse race for the Scudetto until the end,” Altobelli writes, also thinking of Napoli, “but Inter starts with the advantage of being defending champions – when you see the Scudetto on the shirt you don’t want to give it up.”

He goes on that “The growth in their mentality is frightening. The Scudetto win was only the first sign, now with progression into the Champions League knockouts, Inter have shown that they have also become a European-class team.”

“At the beginning of the season the team conceded a little too much,” he writes, “now there are very few teams who can rattle Inter.”

“Look at how much the defenders push up, how easily even the back three can make their way into the opposition penalty area,” he adds.

Altobelli writes that “They are an impressive team in possession. Brozo has always been a great organizer, but now he is everywhere and he always makes the right decisions.”

“And the quality of Bastoni and Dimarco, when they get involved in possession, is quite out of the ordinary. Yes, this Inter has enormous potential,” he concludes.
