Following the departure of Igor Tudor after just one season in charge, Marseille are looking to secure a replacement for the Croatian manager as soon as possible.

Former midfielder Marcelo Gallardo, who left River Plate last year after eight years in charge, has emerged as the favourite to become OM’s new head coach, with the club’s upper management having already held talks with the Argentine.

With a deal yet to be finalised, though, other options are still being looked at by Marseille, with Lille manager Paulo Fonseca notably on the shortlist. Another name, slightly more surprising than the Portuguese manager, has been offered to the club in former Celtic manager Neil Lennon, according to French journalist Patrick Juillard.

The Northern Irishman won five league titles over two separate spells with Celtic – who he also turned out for in seven seasons during his playing days. The 52-year-old has been a free agent since his departure last year from Omonia Nicosia, according to Juillard, would not be against the idea of taking on a team in Ligue 1.
