Sky Sports pundit Keith Andrews has admitted that Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper will need to be given time by the club’s hierarchy if he is to turn things around at the City Ground.

Cooper was drafted in as a replacement for Chris Hughton earlier this month following an horrendous start to the 2021/22 campaign by the Reds.

A run of six defeats in their opening seven league games resulted in Forest opting to part ways with Hughton.

The Reds have drafted in a new manager every year since 2010 and thus it will be interesting to see whether their current owner Evangelos Marinakis is willing to change his stance following this latest appointment.

Cooper managed to pick up a point in his first game in charge of Forest and will now be looking to guide his side to victory in their clash with Barnsley tomorrow.

Making reference to the Welshman, Andrews has admitted that Cooper will need to be given time to transform the club’s fortunes.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Sky Sports EFL Podcast, Andrews said: “The owner as we know can be slightly volatile.

Fake

“He’s shown it in his club in Greece, Olympiacos, with the amount of managers and obviously the amount of managers pre-this owner as well at Nottingham Forest has been ridiculous.

“So consistency is needed, he [Cooper] needs to be given time to get this right.”

The Verdict

It is hard to disagree with Andrews’ view as Forest have failed to give some of their previous managers enough time to turn things around at the City Ground and thus they cannot afford to make the same mistake with Cooper.

Having guided Swansea City to the play-off final last season, the 41-year-old will be confident in his ability to achieve a relative amount of success at Forest.

Providing that Cooper is able to get the best out of the likes of Lewis Grabban, Joe Worrall and Brennan Johnson, there is no reason why he cannot become an instant hit with the club’s supporters.

By sealing a victory in their clash with Barnsley on Wednesday, Forest could use the momentum gained from this result to push on in the Championship in the coming months.
