Nedved: Cristiano Ronaldo staying at Juventus

I don’t know a single Manchester United fan who thought Cristiano Ronaldo was returning to Old Trafford this summer, even when it looked like he could leave Turin after just two seasons.

The Portugal star has a year left on his Juventus contract and the Italian side were said to be keen to sell Ronaldo if a deal could be agreed.

That led to inevitable speculation over a return to United or a switch to PSG. It has also felt very unlikely that Ronaldo will finish up his career in America, too.

Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved was asked about Ronaldo’s future in a recent interview and I think there will be a few clubs (United included) relieved to read the comments now it’s in the public domain.

“Ronaldo will return to training on Monday and he will stay with us,” Nedved told Sky Sport Italia – as quoted by Spanish outlet AS.

Nedved also offered an update on Paulo Dybala’s future. The Argentine playmaker is no stranger to the United gossip columns.

“[Director Federico] Cherubini has already been in contact with his [Dybala’s] agent, who will arrive in Turin next week. We are in good time to get the situation resolved, it’s not a problem.”

It’s not like United were ever crying out for Ronaldo going into the new season. Edinson Cavani extended his contract at the end of last season and Jadon Sancho’s addition means we are well stocked in the attacking department.

Juventus surely knew it would be a costly three years – even with the expectation of a Champions League triumph.
