"We deeply appreciate the commitment, passion and professionalism that he showed during his tenure at the head of the sports structure of Club Necaxa, highlighting his tireless work in the development of the Necaxa quarry where he provided important foundations for the future promises of Mexican soccer,” said the club after Santiago San Roman’s exit.

But with the 2023 Liga MX Clausura fast approaching, the team opted for a fresh start.

“Alberto Clark García assumes the Sports Management of Club Necaxa after previously having been part of the coaching staff that achieved promotion for the Rayos in 2016; In addition to serving as sports manager of the institution since 2019," the club added.

The team is coming off a disappointing campaign, concluding the 2022 Apertura in 12th place on the table before failing to advance to the playoffs by losing to Tigres in the Repechaje match.

Following the final whistle, the organization promised changes.

The roster has already seen action, with several players departing and Alexis Pena rumored to leave as well. To balance the exits, the team brought in Andres Lillini as the new head coach, snapping him up after he parted ways with Pumas.

The 2023 campaign is bound to see a revamped Necaxa take the field.
