Bas Dost has provided a positive update from his hospital bed following his collapse at the AFAS Stadion, Voetbal International reports. NEC Nijmegen were leading 2-1 against AZ Alkmaar before Dost required urgent medical attention which resulted in the match being abandoned.
Dost suddenly went to the ground in the final phase of the match with NEC-AZ on Sunday. There was great panic in Alkmaar, where the attacker was treated by medics on the field. When he was carried off the field on a stretcher, Dost regained consciousness. The match was cancelled.
Dost went straight to the hospital and while it is unclear how long he will be receiving treatment. From the hospital, Dost sent a message to the players and staff of NEC. Dost stated that he is feeling good, wanted to thank the medical people who helped him, said that he is staying in the hospital and that he is doing well.
He said: “I’m doing well. The help I received on the field was fantastic. I’m in the hospital now and I feel good. Thanks for all the support!”
