NEC chief Van Leeuwen welcomes Cillessen from Valencia: Exceptional qualities | OneFootball

Valencia have announced the departure of Jasper Cillessen for NEC Nijmegen.

The 63-time Holland international signed a three-year contract with NEC last Thursday.

After eleven years, Cillessen is back where he started. Technical director Ted van Leeuwen said: “Jasper is a goalkeeper with exceptional qualities, the best in the Netherlands.

"If you as NEC can bring in such a goalkeeper, you should never doubt it. We weren't looking for a goalkeeper, but the goalkeeper found us."

The former Barcelona player, for his part, said: "I am very happy to be home. Over the last ten years I have had wonderful adventures and coming back to Nijmegen now is the icing on the cake for me.

"But I am not done yet, working on a beautiful project and I would like to be part of it. With my experience, I believe and hope I can contribute something to the team."
