England have opted out of captain Harry Kane wearing the pro-LGBTQ+ OneLove armband on Monday.
Both England and Wales are among eight European nations who said they would wear the armband at the Qatar World Cup. They have all now announced they will not wear the armband after players were threatened with bookings for breaching equipment regulations.
The nine nations involved wrote to Fifa months ago asking for permission to wear the specially designed armbands but no response was received.
“We’ve made it clear as a team and a staff and organisation that we want to wear the armband,” Kane said over the weekend.
“I know the FA are talking to Fifa at the moment and I’m sure by game time tomorrow they will have their decision. I think we’ve made it clear that we want to wear it.”
The FA insisted they were willing to pay a fine but have backed down amid suggestions that Harry Kane could be booked before kick-off if he were to wear the armband in Monday’s opener against Iran.
