As will be the case each international break, Manchester United will have been keeping tabs on how their players fared for their nations ahead of Saturday’s return to Premier League action.

The likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Noussair Mazraoui all withdrew from their respective camps with fitness concerns, the latter of which has since successfully undergone minor surgery after suffering from heart palpitations. As a result, he’ll be ruled out for a handful of fixtures.

Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen were both called up for Denmark for their Nations League double-header, and both featured in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Spain. However, Hojlund, who recently returned from a lengthy setback due to a hamstring injury, only played for the final 12 minutes of the tie.

His brief cameo was followed up by a report from Danish outlet Bold, which confirmed that the centre-forward sat out of the entirety of their subsequent training session on Sunday, along with Joakin Maehle.

Hojlund’s training omission may be a precautionary decision

Prior to his absence, manager Kasper Hjulmand did confirm that the United No.9 was fully fit, but his omission from the squad’s preparations is certain to raise eyebrows at Old Trafford – especially given that he’s struggled with frequent injury woes since swapping Serie A for the Premier League in 2023.

It’ll be worth keeping an eye on Denmark’s clash with Switzerland tomorrow evening to see if Hojlund is given the nod, as he’d be expected to start when United host Brentford on Saturday.
