Leeds United Under-21s complete their National League Cup group stage campaign with a trip to face Tamworth away from home, knowing a victory will confirm progression into the quarter-final of the competition.

The Whites currently sit top of Group C after an impressive set of results so far, collecting eight points from their first three matches in the inaugural tournament.

Victory in a scintillating, seven goal thriller opened Scott Gardner’s side account, a 4-3 success over Boston United, before a hard-fought 2-1 win on Tyneside over Gateshead brought three more points.

Most recently, a last-gasp equaliser from FC Halifax Town took the tie with the Shaymen to penalties, but heroics from goalkeeper Rory Mahady helped United to an important extra point in the hunt for qualification.

The Whites picked up a vital three points on Premier League 2 duties last time out as well, with a Rhys Chadwick brace steering Leeds to a 3-1 win over Everton U21s.

It has been a whirlwind few months for Tamworth, beating Sky Bet League One side Huddersfield Town in the Emirates FA Cup and famously taking Premier League outfit Tottenham to extra time in the Third Round.

On their return to the Vanarama National League, Andy Peaks’ side have enjoyed a relatively strong start to life back in the fifth tier, currently sitting 15th in the standings.

Fortunes have differed in this competition, however, drawing once and losing once from their first two matches.

Action from the Lamb Ground gets underway at 7:45pm.
