Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has admitted on Instagram that while he was very frustrated by the nature of Derby County’s performance against Exeter City, he believes that the club can turn things around in the coming months.

The Rams were unable to get back to winning ways in League One last night as they were forced to settle for a point in their showdown with the Grecians at Pride Park.

Haydon Roberts went close for Derby in the early stages of this fixture as he headed an effort over.

Exeter forward Jay Stansfield then forced Joe Wildsmith into making a diving save.

Following the break, Conor Hourihane’s deflected free-kick was denied by Grecians goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.

Despite pushing for a winning goal in the closing stages, the Rams were unable to break down a resilient Exeter outfit.

As a result of this stalemate, Derby now find themselves 15 points adrift of the automatic promotion places in League One.

The Rams will be hoping to secure all three points this weekend when they host Bristol Rovers.

After his side’s meeting with Exeter, Mendez-Laing offered an honest assessment on this particular display on Instagram.

“Very frustrating tonight.

“Stick with us, we’ll turn this round.”

The Verdict

Currently being deployed as a wing-back by the Rams, Mendez-Laing produced a relatively encouraging performance in this position as he helped his side keep a clean-sheet by making three tackles and three interceptions last night (as per WhoScored).

Whereas it is clear to see that Derby are still adapting to life under the guidance of their new head coach Paul Warne, they will need to start to pick up victories on a regular basis in order to boost their chances of challenging for promotion this season.

Warne certainly knows exactly what it takes to succeed at this level as he has achieved three promotions to the Championship as a manager and thus will be confident in his ability to transform the Rams’ fortunes.

By securing all three points in their showdown with the Gas this weekend, Derby may be able to use the confidence gained from this result to push on in League One.
