Luton Town manager Nathan Jones has revealed that he could realistically see four more outfield players arriving at Kenilworth Road this summer, in conversation with The Lutonian.

The Hatters, who have already welcomed Alfie Doughty, Cauley Woodrow and Matt Macey to Bedfordshire in the early stages of this summer window, will be looking to assemble a squad who will be striving to go one better than the play-offs.

Speaking to The Lutonian about continued summer transfer players, in regards to outfield players, Nathan Jones said: “We’re looking to bring in two midfield players and one attacking player, and we’d like to sign another defender as well.

“That’s what we want to do, that will be us done then, effectively you could see four coming in, we’ll have to see, we’ve got big numbers now, so we’ll see, one or two would need to go out, but we’re in a real strong position for a first week of pre-season.

“All we’re looking to do now is add quality, not just bodies, we’ve got bodies, we’ve got a fantastic squad already, but we still want to push boundaries and get better, because historically, we’ve got better every year, to do that from last year, is going to take a big push and to do that, we just need a little bit more quality and keep adding.”

True or false: Alastair Cook was the youngest Englishman to ever reach 5,000 test runs?

True False

The verdict

As Jones says, he already possesses a strong squad, so they certainly have the bodies there, but is ultimately about compiling a squad together that could achieve something terrific next season.

Already adding quality to the squad in the form of Cauley Woodrow and Alfie Doughty, Jones will be eager to conclude his business as early as possible.

Following the departures of Peter Kioso and Kal Naismith, it is no surprise to see that Jones is after a defender, whilst Robert Snodgrass’ uncertain situation paves the way for midfield recruitment.

It will be interesting to see how a search for another attacker develops too.
