Luton Town fought hard to claim a 2-2 draw against Derby County on Tuesday night and despite their striker Elijah Adebayo bagging himself a goal, Nathan Jones told Luton Today he feels the striker and his partner weren’t supported by those behind them claiming ‘there was nothing behind them.’

Adebayo partnered Harry Cornick up front in that stalemate and while the latter of the two was unable to score, it was the former’s equaliser that snatched his side a point.

The 23-year old looked sharp during the game and won the most duels of anyone on the pitch and ultimately deserved his finish. It takes his tally to a fairly impressive six goals in 12 games so far for the Hatters this season and he’s been a key reason why the club are doing so well in the Championship table.

Despite the result and the goal though, Nathan Jones believes the player was let down by the support behind him, saying that his side were not ‘aggressive’ enough from just behind the two strikers. Speaking to Luton Today about it, he said: “He wasn’t backed up by those behind him to be fair to him.I back him to cause problems and our front two to cause problems, but it was too easy for the two centre halves.

“There was nothing behind them, we weren’t aggressive enough behind them.”

The Luton boss may not feel that his side did enough to threaten from behind Adebayo then but the striker still managed to put the ball in the back of the net and his side claimed a valuable point in their bid to try and challenge at the higher end of the table.

With the Hatters now ninth in the table and facing off against Hull at the weekend, they will fancy their chances of climbing even higher towards those promotion places on Saturday.

Elijah Adebayo was one of the better players on the pitch in Luton’s game over Derby and although he may have struggled at times due to this lack of support from behind him, he still managed to score a crucial goal to salvage a point. The young forward has been in decent goalscoring form so far this year and it will certainly come in useful to his side going forward.

Adebayo and Cornick have both been sharp in front of goal in recent weeks and if they can keep it up, there is no reason as to why the Hatters couldn’t be play-off contenders. Adebayo also has the potential to get even better, what with his age, so he’s a good player to have in their ranks.
