Nathan Jones has refused to rule out Luton Town making a move for free agent Luke Freeman this summer.
The Hatters attempted to sign the former Sheffield United player last January, but were unable to come to a financial agreement with the Blades.
But the player has since departed Bramall Lane following the expiration of his contract.
That has seen the 49-year old questioned over the club’s interest in the midfielder.
The Luton boss has refused to rule out the possibility that he could join up with the team at Kenilworth Road, claiming that it is an area that the club is looking to strengthen this summer.
“We’ve got a position to fill in that area,” said Jones, via Luton Today.
“We’d like to bring in a left-footed midfielder player, we really would, and there’s a number of names, a number of people that we’ve spoken to.
“It’s just about trying to do deals and if we can then brilliant, if we can’t then okay we’ll move on, but that’s what we’re trying to do.
“There’s some good players out of contract and we’re an attractive proposition football-wise.
“The club, the way it’s run, the way we do stuff, the team, the group, so if we can persuade people to come, then we’ll get those over the line.”

Jones knows Freeman well having played alongside him during their time together at Yeovil in 2010-11.
Luton will be looking to improve their squad following their impressive campaign last time out.
The team earned an impressive 6th position finish to earn a place in the Championship play-off places.
The club’s season gets underway on July 30 with a home game against Birmingham City, as pre-season training now gets underway in preparation for the opening day.
The Verdict
This would be a solid signing for the club given Freeman’s experience at a high level.
He has played for the likes of Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest and has performed quite well in the Championship in the past.
He would fill a gap in the squad that Jones wants to sort out before the season arrives.
Freeman would also come as a free agent which would make it yet another shrewd move to bring players into the club at a relatively low cost.
