It was a night to remember for the Celtic FC Women’s squad at the Excelsior Stadium on Friday evening as the Ghirls ran out 3-0 winners over Glasgow City.

Victory over their city rivals in Airdrie sealed the Ghirls’ place in the last four of the Sky Sports Cup as Fran Alonso’s side eye up more trophy success.

Goals in the second half from Amy Gallacher and Kit Loferski sealed a huge win for the Celts. However, it was Natalie Ross’ early strike which set the tone and sent Celtic on their way to victory.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the midfielder said: “We are absolutely delighted. It’s no secret that I’m getting older now, so every win is a massive game for us.

“We knew it was going to be a hard game, Glasgow City are a great team and they won the league last season.

'But I thought we thoroughly deserved to win. We fought so, so hard. Every player that was on the pitch and came off the bench. We just really deserved that.'

“I thought Glasgow City actually started a bit better than us. The first goal maybe came a bit against the run of play – we needed that,” Ross continued.

“I can’t really remember it going in. I just remember turning to Craigy and she was cheering, so I had a bit of a head knock, but I feel fine now.

“I think at that time, we need the goal just to settle us because Glasgow City came out the traps quite fast.

“But we managed it and we took control of the game from there, getting a deserved 3-0 win.”

After seeing off their city rivals in the last eight of the competition, the Hoops now have a semi-final to look forward to later in the season.

Over the last few years, Ross and her team-mates have achieved a lot of success in cup competitions and the goal is to keep that run going.

She said: “It’s very exciting when you get to these stages and in cup games, especially when we have won three of the last four.

'So it’s very exciting because you want to play at Hampden and on these big occasions in the Sky Sports Cup.'

“We are just over the moon to have booked our place in the last four.”
