Nashville SC have acquired winger Tyler Boyd from the LA Galaxy for $150,000 in GAM, potential for additional $625,000 in GAM if incentives were met, and two international roster spots. The LA Galaxy are going to receive a nice potential payday for the former U.S. international winger. The move never really worked out in 2023 for Boyd in Los Angeles. He didn’t seem thrilled either according to his departure post on Instagram. In return, Nashville receive Tyler Boyd who arrived to MLS from Turkey before the 2023 season. Boyd is a 29 year old winger with 10 caps for the United States with 2 goals and 1 assist on the international stage. In his club career, Boyd has represented 9 club’s first teams scoring 39 goals and recording 26 assists.
The Galaxy are down to three wingers on their first team roster; Diego Fagundez, Jonathan Perez, and Gino Vivi. The club has made it well known that they are after a Designated Player level winger this off-season. There are a ton of reports and rumors on who could be headed to the Galaxy from South America. We should be seeing some interesting news this upcoming transfer window.
Nashville have now added two wingers this off-season; Tyler Boyd and McKinze Gaines. The interesting thing here is that we don’t see many formations from Gary Smith’s sides that include true wingers. We are either going to see a change in formation in 2024 from Nashville or we are going to see Gaines and Boyd convert into more of a wide midfielder like we’ve seen from Jacob Shaffelburg. Nashville could be one interesting team to keep an eye on this January.
