Josh Bauer gave the hosts an early lead in the sixth minute, heading home a corner to send GEODIS Park into a frenzy.

Before the 15th minute arrived, Nashville found themselves up a pair through Luke Haakenson, who expertly finished off a Jacob Shaffelburg cross.

Even though it looked as if Nashville were going to run away with the match, Jürgen Damm made an inch-perfect run behind the defence and finished from 10 yards to cut the deficit in half just before the break.

Miguel Layún found the equalizer minutes into the second stanza, smashing the ball from 25 yards to atone for an earlier mistake.

Nashville thought they had found a sensational winner just minutes before the end of 90 when Jack Maher tucked a corner into the empty net after a fortunate bounce from a corner.

Roman ‘Mozumbo’ Martínez would then score an unlikely 95th-minute goal just before the end of regulation to send the match directly to a shootout.

The home side would come out with a 4-2 win, clinching the match with Brian Anunga playing the role of hero.

Nashville SC will continue pushing for their third playoff berth in their first three years in the league when they face Houston Dynamo on October 2nd.

Meanwhile, the Eagles of América can go into the Liguilla as the top seed in Liga MX with a win over Puebla next Friday.
