He stated that he is enjoying Napoli so far and Manna visited him in his house in Manchester to convince him about a move to the Maradona.

He said: “Napoli? I had heard about it during the European Championships and was immediately attracted. I learned a lot about the project, the team, the coach. And the sporting director Manna had a great influence on me, helping me.

“He came to my house in Manchester, he explained to me the culture, the history of the club, the shirt, Naples, the stadium, the myth of Maradona, the incredible food. I’m very happy here.”

He also stated that he believes in the idea of winning the Scudetto, saying: “Of course I believe in it. We have to think that we can win every game. We have worked hard to be where we are now. And I believe that something spectacular can still happen. We must not panic. We can finish really well.”

The midfielder also expressed admiration for Antonio Conte, who can guide Napoli to the title for the second time in three seasons.

“Conte? He has an incredible energy, he is never calm or “slow”, and that is a good thing because he always transmits a lot of energy. For us footballers he is very important because even on the pitch he gives us the strength to believe in ourselves so much that we can do anything without limits. He gives a lot of confidence to the players.”

So far this season, McTominay has scored six goals in Serie A and has also contributed to four assists.
