Napoli would like to add one defender in January and have laid eyes on Danilo, who’s not seeing consistent minutes at Juventus. He returned to the XI versus Lecce, but only because Nicolò Savona was unavailable.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Azzurri director Giovanni Manna, who was poached from the Bianconeri, reached out to the player, who’s open to the destination. The decision will be up to the Old Lady, which is already short-handed at the position. They’d have to sign two men afterward. They are confident about landing Antonio Silva, though.
Danilo is under contract with Juventus only until June, so Napoli could just wait and sign him for free. The defender recently dismissed the chatter about a return to Brazil. According to TuttoSport, partying ways with the veteran would align with the team’s strict payroll policy. On the other hand, they’d have to substitute for him appropriately despite his secondary role.
The Partenopei are also after Nicolò Fagioli, who could leave to raise funds, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. However, Olympique Marseille are in pole position should the Bianconeri take this route.
He wouldn’t really play that much more there, at least this season, but he’d probably obtain a multi-year contract with a similar salary. Or perhaps he just wants out because he feels spurned. He’d be expendable for the Bianconeri if they were whole, but they aren’t. Antonio Conte signaled he’d veto the departure of Giacomo Raspadori, but there would be the premises to concoct mutually beneficial deals if the front offices managed to look past the rivalry.
