As reported via the Frankfurter Rundschau, Napoli are set to offer former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels a contract proposal.
Since departing the Westfalenstadion at the end of last season, Hummels’ future has largely been unknown.
While the 35-year-old has received offers from a number of sides, such as Bologna, he has yet to make a decision on his future.
Recently, Brighton & Hove Albion had expressed their interest in luring the 2014 World Cup winner over the Premier League, as they look to add further Bundesliga experience to their side this summer.
Nevertheless, despite being in discussion with head coach Fabian Hürzeler, negotiations with Hummels have not progressed, leading to a sense from within the club that the defender will not be joining this summer.
This has, however, left the door open for Napoli, with Antonio Conte looking to add valued experience to his backline.
It is understood that the Serie A outfit will make a proposal to Hummels in the coming days.
Regardless, there is still a chance that the defender will decide to end his career after leading Dortmund to the Champions League final last season.
