Napoli honoured Giovanni Di Lorenzo and paid tribute to the late Diego Maradona with an Instagram post captioned ‘captains and champions’ after Antonio Conte and his players secured the club’s fourth Serie A title on Friday evening.

Napoli were crowned champions of Italy after a 2-0 win over Cagliari on Friday evening, which was enough to wrap up the club’s second Scudetto in three years.

Napoli’s tribute to Di Lorenzo and Maradona

The Scudetto victory was a particularly special occasion for Italy international Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who has now won two Serie A titles as captain of Napoli, the same tally as the late, great Maradona.

Maradona won two titles in four years with victories in 1986-87 and 1989-90, while Di Lorenzo has gone one better by winning two titles across three seasons in 2022-23 and 2024-25.

They are the only two players to captain Napoli to a league title in the club’s history.

“Captains and Champions,” Napoli wrote on Instagram along with a picture of their two Scudetto-winning leaders.
