Napoli legend Marek Hamsik has revealed the two players he most enjoyed playing alongside during his 12-year career with the Partenopei.
The former Partenopei captain gave an interview to Corriere dello Sport, published on Thursday, where he discussed his time in Serie A and his start to life in the dug-out following his retirement in 2023.
Hamsik immediately turned to Ezequiel Lavezzi when asked for his favourite former teammates. They both joined Napoli on five-year contracts back in 2007, following the club’s promotion from Serie B the season before.
Hamsik also had three years alongside Piotr Zielinski in the Napoli midfield. The Poland international and recent Inter signing was also given a shoutout by Hamsik, who claimed that he is among the best midfielders in the world.
“Napoli has had so many champions in this period, but I have to think of one who inspired the whole city, then I choose Pocho, Lavezzi. It was an honour to play with him, we speak regularly.
“I also like to remember Zielinski, one of the strongest midfielders in the world,” he added.
Hamsik also revealed that Maurizio Sarri was his favourite coach to work with, even more so than Francesco Calzona, to whom he serves as an assistant with the Slovakia national team.
“With Sarri, I enjoyed my football more than with any of the others. At the time, I also met Calzona, he was his first assistant.”
