Napoli’s hierarchy are eager to reward Luciano Spalletti for his stellar season by tying him down long-term.

The former Roma boss has led the Partenopei to the brink of the third Scudetto in their history, while they are also in a strong position to reach the Champions League final.

But Spalletti’s contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona expires at the end of the season and the club are determined to avoid a situation which could see him walk away.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report on Friday that the club do have an option in his current deal to extend by a further year but they are keen to see him pen an extension until the summer of 2025.

It would also see Spalletti’s annual salary boosted from €3m per season to €4m plus bonuses.

However, the man in charge has made it clear that he does not intent to discuss his future before the season ends – and that it shouldn’t be a source of worry for supporters.

“I intend to stay focused on my work. There will be time to discuss the future,” he said recently when asked why discussions about a new deal hadn’t taken place yet.

“I’m 64 now and in the future, I only in intend to sign contracts for one year.”
